1. Material Overview: Basalt fiber has excellent physical properties and good adhesion, heat, and corrosion resistance, making it suitable for civil engineering.

Basalt fiber unidirectional cloth has high tensile strength and elongation (3.1%). In extreme conditions, it can absorb much energy through spontaneous deformation, making it uniquely advantageous for seismic reinforcement. Basalt fiber unidirectional cloth is a non-conductive insulating material. It has obvious advantages in reinforcement projects with high anti-magnetic, electrical insulation, and anti-magnetic requirements, such as subway tunnels, electrified railways, and building reinforcement projects. Additionally, basalt fiber unidirectional cloth is convenient for construction in reinforcement projects. Its combination with adhesives is better, and the impregnation of resin is higher than that of carbon fiber, thus improving the building structure's ability to resist movement loads and impacts. It is suitable for reinforcing bridges' piers, columns, and beams. Notable instances of using basalt fiber unidirectional cloth in structural reinforcement include the renovation and reinforcement of an unfinished building in Shanghai, the heightening of a ground floor building in Shanghai, the reinforcement of dangerous houses and buildings in Jiangsu, the renovation and reinforcement of service buildings in Zhejiang, and the renovation and reinforcement of a bridge by a central region expressway company.

2. Technical Performance:

(1)Impact Resistance: Continuous basalt fiber has a tensile strength of 4100-4800 MPa, an elastic modulus of 90-110 GPa, and an ultimate elongation of 3.1% (carbon fiber 1.7%, aramid 2.4%). Under extreme gravity, basalt fiber material absorbs a lot of energy through deformation, which is a necessary performance in building reinforcement engineering. Therefore, basalt fiber is widely used in military equipment, explosion-proof facilities, and bridge pier reinforcement projects.

(2)Fatigue Resistance: Although carbon fiber has high tensile strength, it is brittle under extreme stress and has inferior fatigue resistance compared to basalt fiber. Therefore, different materials should be used in various parts of structural reinforcement, such as carbon fiber in some parts and basalt fiber in others.

(3)Acid and Alkali Corrosion Resistance: Basalt fiber composite materials have higher acid resistance than aramid and alkali resistance than E-glass. They can withstand general organic solvents for a long time and are superior to other fibers in terms of moisture resistance.

(4)Electrical Insulation and Anti-Magnetic Properties: Some parts of building reinforcement require high electrical insulation and anti-magnetic properties. Using basalt fiber materials in these parts can avoid the hazard of stray currents.

3.Cost Advantage:

In structural reinforcement, basalt fiber unidirectional cloth performs on par with or surpasses carbon fiber in some aspects while maintaining a similar appearance. The cost of basalt fiber unidirectional cloth is just over 20 RMB per square meter, making it the most cost-effective alternative to carbon fiber unidirectional cloth.
